High-Speed Rail Releases Spring 2024 Construction Update

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) has released its Spring 2024 Progress Report highlighting continued progress being made on California’s high-speed rail project, including work on the Central Valley system’s largest construction site, the Hanford Viaduct. Located in Kings County, workers continue to build the superstructure and deck of the elevated structure that will carry electrified high-speed trains and will connect to the future Kings/Tulare Station. Other highlights include work at the Belmont Avenue Grade Separation in the city of Fresno, Tied Arch Bridge in Fresno County, Tule River Viaduct in Tulare County, and the clean-up of an old farmworker housing facility in Kern County. Since the start of construction, the Authority has created more than 13,000 construction jobs, a majority going to residents from the Central Valley. This includes 4,296 that have gone to residents from Fresno County, 2,553 from Kern County, 1,306 from Tulare County, 596 from Madera County, 465 from Kings County, and 190 from Merced County.  The Authority has begun work to extend the 119 miles currently under construction to 171 miles of future electrified high-speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield. There are currently more than 25 active construction sites in the Valley, with the Authority having also fully environmentally cleared 422 miles of the high-speed rail program from the Bay Area to Los Angeles County.
